State Water Efficiency & Enhancement Program (SWEEP)
SWEEP is a program that provides financial assistance to growers to implement irrigation systems that reduce their on-farm water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. CDFA awards up to $200,000 to qualifying projects.
Since 2014, CDFA has selected 1,130 projects to be awarded, funding a total of $123 million. In each application cycle, 25% of the funds are reserved for historically disadvantaged farmers and ranchers and low-income communities.

Eligible practices include:
- Installation of variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Pump retrofit or replacement
- Soil moisture sensors
- Use of evapotranspiration (ET) based irrigation scheduling
- Conversion to micro-irrigation or drip irrigation
- Pump conversion from diesel to electric or solar
- Conversion to low-pressure irrigation system

If the application period is open and you're ready to apply, please follow these steps for a successful application: SWEEP Application Roadmap
Don't forget to get your Pump testing done. Plan you get it tested in advance because pump companies tend to have long wait lists to perform the tests. Also get quotes for the projects you want to implement, to make your application more competitive.
