Navel Orangeworm
Navel Orangeworm Management in the Lower San Joaquin Valley
Navel orangeworm (NOW) is the single most important insect pest of almonds due to its ability to feed directly on the kernel and association with aflatoxins. Management of NOW requires a combination of cultural and chemical controls. Over the past few years, chemical control options have been expanded to include mating disruption (MD). This technique uses mass-dispersal of NOW pheromone in an effort to reduce the likelihood that male moths can find females and mate.
